"The greatest part of our happiness depends on our dispositions, not our circumstances."
- Martha Washington
As a society, we are constantly bombarded by images of affluent celebrities in the media. These individuals are able to purchase virtually anything that his/her heart desires, yet so many of these celebrities are in the constant pursuit of happiness.
There error lies in the fact that "happiness" is not a commodity that can be purchased; it is a state of being.
So many times in my life I have caught myself uttering the words, "I would be happy if..." in the face of adversity or a harrowing circumstance. The fact is I may not be able to change the circumstance on which I am basing my happiness on. I can; however, change my disposition.
