"Don't Give Up"
--Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush
Having lived through the depressive eighties in the U.K. this song became almost an anthem to me. I spent long periods of time unemployed and the lyrics to this song, about a man who feels he has no place in society were particularly poignant.
Several years later and for the same reasons but different circumstances, it became equally important, a period of severe depression led to a suicide attempt and this song helped me through the long years of rehabilitation.
Leaping forward again in time I am currently typing this story wondering how the heck we are going to afford to pay for Christmas as once again due to poor health I am out of work – but I will NEVER give up.
